She played for a short time playing for The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Independence before being transferred to the Boca Raton Florida MagicJack. After only eight games, she scored two of the three goals scored by the team. The magicJack was able to finish third at the top of their league. The magicJack disbanded in late 2011 and the WPS was shut down in the early months of 2012. Rapinoe returned to the United States in 2011 after playing in the Sydney Football Club FC, the Australian W-League. Then, she joined Seattle Washington Sounders Women. When the WPS was disbanded, she joined Seattle Reign FC (now OL Reign) of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL. Rapinoe gained the status of one of the club's top scorers before becoming Captain of the squad. Rapinoe scored two goals as United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze medal game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been put off from participating in to the Olympics until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
